How quickly time passes. I can hardly believe it’s spring. Let alone 2006. I owe all of you music fans a REAL journal entry. It’s been too long. So, here goes. Last year started with a wonderful trip to Nashville with lots of writing and some performing. And then, life happened. My husband and I had to get serious about planning our wedding. Which meant saving as much money as possible. Which meant cutting back on the travel. Which meant not going to Nashville for a while. We had just purchased and moved into our first home in January so there was lots to keep me busy in New Jersey. My summer was spent working as many hours as possible at the old day-job and slowly but surely getting our new home together. All the while, I’m writing and dreaming of making new records and feeling the musical tug.
Then, in September, right before the big wedding I get the opportunity to write a song for the National 2006 March of Dimes campaign. March of Dimes needs a song to back their 2006 television and radio ads and they’re looking at me to come up with it. So, without question, and not even a month before I get married, I dig in and write something that they end up loving. But it has to be recorded. So, literally two days before the nuptials I’m trying not to think about anything else but making these March of Dimes commercials the best that they can be. So, I do. And it turns out great! In the middle of all of this, I also get the opportunity to exercise my vocal jingle chops. I sing a few foot cream jingles and decide I’m not sure that’s what I want to do when I grow up. And, all the while, I’m still writing and dreaming of making new records and feeling the musical tug.
Then it’s “I DO” and off to California. Which was awesome, awesome, awesome and even more awesome. We come home from our honeymoon on cloud nine only to discover that someone in our immediate family has been diagnosed with cancer. Wow. Talk about crashing back into reality. So, we pitch in and help however, wherever, whatever. It’s tough. But it’s family. And, all the while, I’m still writing and dreaming of making new records and feeling the musical tug.
I decided right before the end of last year that I wanted to learn more about the piano. So, I started taking piano lessons. The piano is an incredible instrument and I LOVE IT. It’s expanding the shape and breadth of my musical experience everyday. So, I say, it’s time to start thinking about making a record, booking some shows . . . but wait . . . not yet. I injure my knee and I opt to have surgery to get me back in action. Major surgery. I’ll be on disability for three months but I’ll have a super-duper knee joint in the end. So, today is April 21, 2006. The surgery is on Monday, April 24, 2006. Here’s hoping it all goes well. And, all the while, I’m still writing and dreaming of making new records and feeling the musical tug.
A huge, heartfelt thank you for your continued support.
Always,
Jessica
